What is an Exercise Pool?

An exercise pool, also called a swim spa, is a compact pool that uses a jet of water to enable you to swim in place. It is like a combination between a treadmill and a swimming pool. These pools can be used for soaking, exercise and physical therapy.
How Does It Work?
An exercise pool has a water jet at one end. In front of the jet is a hand bar. When the water jet is turned on, it sucks water from the pool and forces it out near the surface, creating a steady stream of water. This stream of water creates resistance that the user can swim against.
You can adjust the strength of the water stream to increase the speed at which you can swim or increase the resistance that you are swimming against. You can either hold on to the hand bar and kick or swim totally suspended in the water.
What Size Is the Pool?
Exercise pool come in several sizes. Most are between 7 and 10 feet wide and between 12 and 16 feet long. The most common maximum depth for an exercise pool is about 6 feet. While common dimensions are used by most manufacturers, the way that these pools are constructed makes it possible to customize the dimensions of your pool to meet your needs.
