Albert 'may face paternity test'

MONACO - Newly-married Prince Albert II of Monaco may undergo a DNA test to determine alleged paternity of an 18-month boy.

Controversy and scandal surrounded the days before his wedding to former South African Olympic swimmer, Charlene Wittstock.

Albert and Charlene married Saturday in front of 800 royal and celebrity guests in an emotional ceremony that ended with fireworks and a ball for 200 of the couple's friends.

Reports in French media also suggested the paternity rumour almost sparked a cancellation of the wedding.

Palace officials admitted there had been a "hiccup" in preparations, following the claim Prince Albert fathered a child with a former lover.

The royal couple is due to fly South Africa tomorrow, where the prince was due to attend a meeting of the International Olympic Committee of which he is a member.

The palace said no details of their honeymoon plans would be made public, but a further party was planned on Thursday in Durban, South Africa.
